Joan and all

I copy pensions and land records at the National Archives in Washington for
clients so I frequently send large priority mail packages. Are the rates
you quoted the new proposed ones? The current rates for general priority
mail are
Up to one pound - $3.50
Up to two pounds - $3.95
Up to three pounds - $5.15
Up to four pounds - $6.35
Up to five pounds - $7.55
Above that the price of postage is based on weight of the package and the
distance from the origin to the destination zip code.

The best place to find this information in at www.usps.com

On the topic of whether to charge for second copies and postage

Because of the huge volume of paper I would accumulate if I kept second
copies of the pensions I do not bother. I do keep record copies of vital
records, wills, tax records etc. that I gather for other clients. My
clients know, up front, that I will charge for this and the cost of postage.
When I send the bill I delineate what the charges are for: time, copies,
postage. I have never had a problem with this method of determining
charges. I think what it really boils down to is making sure that all
charges are clear and understood by the client before work is begun.
