ALL: Please accept my apologies for the most poorly written email I've ever posted on this list regarding my endote problem and Word 97. Even I couldn't understand what I was asking! (But I knew what I meant <g>.) And thank you all for rolling in with an answer anyway. Let me restate it this way:

To my understanding, the style for Endnote Reference controls both the superscripted reference in the front matter and the number which introduces the endnote text in the Notes section. If one tries to make a style change to Endnote Reference, one ends up automatically changing the style in both places (unfortunately). The Word Gods have decided we will not be allowed to split this style as CMS and Professional Genealogy would prefer. If this understanding is correct, then I will take Ms. Mills suggestion and leave it all in Word's defaulted superscript syle. John and Cheryl--any feedback on this take?
