Are we related ? *Smiles*

Your lines' "secrets" are very similar to mine ..
and am glad to see I am not the only one faced
with them. And like you said, itwas devastating
when I found someone had altered facts.

While we are on this topic, may I ask the
professionals among us where you would start on
the following research problem.

After years of research, all documants found had
said that a person was the daughter of So and so
.. obit, marriage record, death certificate etc
for both generations.

I finally came up with an 1855 WV/VA birth record
for my subject .. and the main reason I had not
found/recognized it before was she was listed
under her mother's maiden name with no father
listed. The mother was listed at her father's
(subject's maternal grandfather's) known address
and she was not married to the "father/husband"
for another two years.

There is another pre-existing child born in 1850
(no birth record or census record showing him
with father, he was not with "mother" or her
parents in thei 1850 census) also claimed as
theirs and the first child after the marriage was
"premature" by a couple of months.

The marriage record also seems to have been
"doctored". at the county level. It at first
appears to be a 1854 .. marked out and corrected
to 1857. In the actual book it is nestled in the
1857 entries .. not the 1854's and the correction
is in the actual book.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give.

Mary Ann
