Joyce,

When I travel I basically charge door-to-door at my research rate. I can't
be doing other work while travelling for this client. If I'm on public
transport then I can review my notes but since you are driving there isn't
anything else you could be doing that would provide income. For expenses you
could either charge the actual costs or use the government rate of X cents
per mile (I think it is currently 31 or 32 cents) to cover all costs and
depreciation.
