I received the following request for help from a friend:

"I have a genealogical question for you. A friend of ours has a niece who
is a lesbian. Her significant other was born a male but had a gender change
to become a woman. They recently were married as two women in Texas. Texas
would do it since her friend's birth certificate showed him/her as a male.
How do I treat this? Do I show this person as a male with the birth name?
The niece wants her/him listed as a woman. It is surely a mix-up and I
don't know how to enter it. "

I then gently queried my friend as to its authenticity and received this reply:

"It is definitely for real and there is a newspaper item which outlines
this. Should I list him/her as a spouse with his name as recorded on the
birth certificate and then detail it below or someplace? "

How would my esteemed APG colleagues have replied? After I see your
answers, I'll tell you what I replied!
