Trish,
Hello.
For years our school district has included a major family history project
in the 6th grade curriculum, culminating in a school fair where the final
products are displayed.
I won't attempt to add to the ideas already mentioned, all of which are
excellent. However, I will mention that a wonderful byproduct of this project
is that some parents will become interested in genealogy or their interest
will be rekindled. You might supply the teachers with the names/addresses of
your local family history centers, genealogy societies, public libraries,
tell them what kinds of genealogical material can be found at each, etc.
Nothing elaborate, just so they can supply this information to interested
parents, and trust me, there will be interested parents!!!! It is not just
6th graders who enjoy and benefit from this project. <G> Joan Hunter,
teacher/librarian and former parent of 6th graders.
