My mother in law married a railroad man late in her (and his) lifetime.
Although she was eligible for her own pension, she had to file for the
pension.
After many years of knowing this, I finally requested the file. It proved
to be a goldmine for me!
My dear mother in law was married 6 times. For the most part I had located
all of them. But one was elusive. In her pension request, she mentioned
that she was married in Wisconsin. Now in all of my wildest dreams,
Wisconsin was not a place that I would have looked. She went on to state
she only lived with the man for one month although they were married until
the day he died, 12 years later. :)
So, the bottom line is that you never, ever know what, where, or when you
will find information on your family.
