In a recent foray into Connecticut deeds, I came across a page number
problem. The old deed books are folio numbered, i.e. each sheet has a
number, and the pages are then recto and verso. Such a folio number is on
the upper right hand corner of the right hand side of the open book.
However, I found one deed book where the numbers are on the left edge of
the left side of the open book. Now what?

One of my colleagues suggested that the page with the number would be 1a
and the facing page 1b. I've gotten accustomed to the British recto/verso
and am very confused. Does Elizabeth have an opinion?
