Subject: [APG] Research Puzzles In NY State
Date: Sat, 22 Jun 2002 08:01:32 -0700 (PDT)

Hi;
This is not for a client; this is my family
I am researching. John Beer came from England and
married (ca. 1840) Emilia DeSilva (I assume this
is her maiden name, since it was the middle name
of at least one of her sons) in New York City.
All censuses I have been able to locate which
list her state she was born in New York and her
parents were born in Spain. (For those censuses
which give parents' place of birth.) I know
little about research in New York, and have had
limited success there.
The oldest family member I have been able to
get information from thought that Amelia herself
was born in one of the islands disputed between
Spain and Portugal - i.e. Maderia or the
Canaries. Are there any resources which might
help me to locate information on a family from
such a location at such an early date.
NOTE: The 1830 Census for Broome, in
Schoharie County, lists a Joseph DeSilva, which
is suggestive, since Joseph was the name of John
and Amelia's eldest son. One other DeSilva in the
state, is listed on the same page as Joseph.
Anyone know a source for that area where I might
be able to locate info on Amelia, her birth, and
her parents, etc. etc. etc.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Ray
