The New York Metro Chapter of APG participated again in the annual New York
Family History Fair, but with a major improvement. Instead of the usual
booth where we peddled our services, we had an "Ancestors Road Show" where
members of APG provided 72 15-minute free consultations in our various
specialties. Interest was so great that within 15 minutes of the Fair's
opening, the line to sign up for advice literally extended out the entrance
door to the Fair. Road Show planners, recognizing the great interest,
extended the program from six simultaneous sessions to eight, permitting 96
consultations. Clearly this was a great attraction to the public and other
chapters should consider having such a program at their local family history
events. It is a great way to make the public aware of the professional
genealogical community.
