What a response! :) Thanks everyone.

Yep, I found it in Word. I've pasted to Outlook Express and
it's there but I'm not sure it will transmit that way (I'm
not finished editing yet). I know I could just attach the
Word document but in this instance, that won't work as I am
transmitting to a list and most lists won't accept any
attachments.

As a test, here's a cut and paste from Word:
Mary Fenton m. Wm Arthur 4th April 1789.



We'll all see if it came through... :)
