On the one occasion that I have done work like this, it was for a cultural resource management (CRM) firm. I had sent letters to several of these firms in my area seeking work as a historian, and, this company contacted me about working on the history of a house and the chain of ownership for the land. I was able to construct a big part of the ownership of the land, but not all of it because of some dead ends that I hit. Trying to find records that would answer the client's question is one of the hard parts, I think, of this kind of research. In that, it is not unlike doing genealogical research. For anyone who wants to read more on the subject, Barbara Howe and others have written a book called Houses and Homes: Exploring their History. It is published by Alta Mira Press.

I, too, would like to know how to locate
clients interested in this type of work. I think
it would be good for my business to broaden the
scope of my work. I also would find such work
interesting, and no doubt it would help me to
develop as a genealogist.
