One day, I heard a local citizen, speaking on the local talk radio station. This station has a forum, where citizens can tape a brief commentary on a local, state, national, and probably international topic. I can't remember everything I heard that day, but the local man said something about why wait until the end of your life to travel. If you do it now, the rest of your life will be enriched by the experiences you had while on your trip/trips. I finally traveled to Ireland 2 years ago. It was my first time out of the US. I went again last year. I shouldn't have waited so long! Now, I am also going to national genealogy conferences. Something I should have been doing for years as well.

Seems like that is actually a great way for everyone to remember me, by introducing myself as the youngest one there. It does get a laugh from everyone and seems to make them a little more comfortable with the fact I am so young. Currently I also teach free classes at the local Family History Center and offer a class for kids when they are out on vacation. So I do relate to your situation.

Being young I have opted to go on those trips I have always dreamed of going on and afraid that if I did not go now I would never go. Last year was my first trip overseas, I went to Germany with my husband. This year was packed with several small family vacations with our daughter. My feeling is that with anyone not just young, but old as well. It is all a matter of priorities in your life. As much as we love genealogy, sometimes other things are just more important. I am hoping that since the conferences will be a little closer to home I will be able to go next year.
