The following letter was sent to several APG members in our local area. I
asked for and received permission to post the letter from the authors and
student. I told the student that I would forward responses to her. Please
let her know your suggestions and thoughts.

I found your name on the APG Directory of Professional Genealogists website.
I hope you can help us.

Our daughter, XXXXX, would like to become a certified genealogist and hopes
to make a career of genealogy.

She currently is in her freshman year at XXXXXX State University majoring in
History. She is also working on getting her certification from the National
Genealogical Society. XXXXX is contemplating dropping college and working
under a certified genealogist (part-time). We would like her to stay in
college getting her B.A. in history and working part-time under a certified
genealogist.

Would a B.A. in history help in the field? How do you recommend a person get
started in the field of genealogy?

We appreciate your assistance and would love to hear your recommendations.
