Hi Pam,
I went to Samford last year and had a wonderful time. I stayed in
the dorms, and didn't mind it at all. I did have some friends who were in a
different dorm room and didn't have a pleasant experience. Their cooler was
stuck on high and they were really cold all night long. If you stay in the
dorms you have to bring your own sheets, pillows, etc. That usually means
another suitcase. However, I don't think you need a car if you stay in the
dorms - they are close to campus and all the classrooms. I think they have
a shuttle from the hotel too, so you might not need a car there either.
Having said that, we were grateful we had a car last year because the
mattresses in our dorm room were really disgusting. We promptly went to
Wal-Mart and bought some plastic sheet protectors. Aside from that the dorm
room was fine for me. Because my friends didn't have a pleasant experience
in their dorm room last year, we've already reserved our hotel rooms for
this year. Next year I'll be better equipped to give my opinion on both
sides of the issue.
We really enjoyed the meal ticket. I would suggest doing that
whether or not you stay on campus. With the meal ticket you basically can
eat whatever you want in the cafeteria for the whole week. They have a
really nice selection of food. We did go out a couple of times though - just
for a variety. It's also nice to be able to sit with different people and
talk about their experiences.
I had such a great experience at Samford last year. I hope you can
make it!!

Subject: [APG] IGHR question

I am considering attending IGHR at Samford this year. What are the pros and
cons of staying on campus vs. one of the hotels? How necessary is it to
have a car for the week? Is there any one that is also going that might be
interested in a roommate?
