Elisabeth,

You might want to check the Historical Census Browser at
http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/collections/stats/histcensus/

Choose your year, then chose "Place of Birth". You can then scroll down and
click on to "no. persons born in sweden". You will then need to scroll to
the bottom of the page and click on "Browse [year] data".

That will take you to a page with the results. There you will need to scroll
down the page to view each state.

At the top of the page on the bottom right is a way to see the data
graphically. Click on the "Graph States" button.
