The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is
pleased to announce three upcoming chapter activities. All current APG members
are welcome to join us and, if you're someone considering joining APG, these
two events will provide a wonderful opportunity to network and get your
questions about membership answered.
JUNE 5, 2004 – 10:00 A.M. – Ft. Wayne, Indiana
CURT B. WITCHER, MLS, FUGA, Manager of the Historical Genealogy Department
of the Allen County Public Library will give us a presentation about his
department and the library's future plans followed by a tour of their temporary
facility at 200 East Berry Blvd. We'll all have lunch at the Gas House Restaurant
and then everyone can head for the stacks for an afternoon of research at
this world famous facility.
JUNE 19, 2004 – 10:00 A.M. – Mansfield, Ohio
TOM NEEL, Library Director of the Ohio Genealogical Society and a member of
the Great Lakes Chapter, will give us a tour of the collection of the largest
state genealogy society in the nation. We'll have a chapter meeting at lunch
(everyone's invited) then dig into the stacks at OGS.
AUGUST 21, 2004 – Lansing, Michigan
CAROLE CALLARD, Genealogy Specialist at the Library of Michigan, Great Lakes
Chapter member and the 2003 recipient of the P. William Filby Award for
Genealogical Librarianship will introduce us to the genealogical resources at the
Library of Michigan, a wonderful nationwide collection. Among it's resources
are all the federal census records 1790-1930, including all Soundex indexes, the
Draper Manuscripts Freedmans' Bureau records, ships, passenger lists and
much more.
Details about accommodations will be forthcoming. If a sufficient number of
people decide to join us, we'll see about getting a group rate.
