All,

This probably an elementary question, but its been a burning question
recently to me.

In using newspaper obituaries is it necessary to state the fact your are
sourcing in the citation?

Example below the individuals date of birth listed in the obituary is
October 20, 1914. So the fact would be that he was born on October 20, 1914
and the source would be:

Clarence P. Bartlett obituary, Williamsport Sun-Gazette, Williamsport,
Pennsylvania, 14 August 2004, [states date of birth as October 20, 1914, in
Pennsdale]. Original obituary from the Williamsport Sun-Gazette 30 day
obituary archive found at:
http://www.sungazette.com/obituary/obituaryArchive.asp. Hereinafter cited
as Williamsport Sun-Gazette; Clarence P. Bartlett obituary.

The part in question is in the [ ].

Is that duplication of the fact required? Or can it be stated without the
text in [ ]? Before about a month ago, I would never have placed that fact
as a part of the source, but now I'm unsure. Any other suggestions are
welcome as well.

Thank you for your time,
Kevin L. Sholder
