Yes, it is a terrible website, however, I've found tons of information there
that is not available elsewhere, particularly records for California and
Texas. Texas used to have much more information available on Rootsweb
(marriages, divorces, etc.) until George W. was governor. Then the state
got paranoid about identity theft and they pulled it all off Rootsweb (how
you use divorce information for identity theft, I don't know). But for some
reason VitalSearch has managed to be able to keep it.
Once you figure out the nuances of doing searches, you can usually find what
you are looking for . . . if it is there. I've found information on over
200 people (I have a modest database approaching 6,000) so the money was
well spent for me. Currently my premium subscription has lapsed, but I will
renew it as soon as I have need of it and when my to-do list is overflowing.
