Helen:

Your message brings to mind a less obvious indexing problem. In the 1860
census of Indiana (and probably others) Ia. was often used by enumerators as
an abbreviation for Indiana. Some - not all - indexers have understandably
have decided all of these Hoosiers were born in IOWA!

(And, yep, I am sick to death of "out sourcing"!!)
