Dear Carolyn,

A great site to search an Ortverzeichnis on-line:

http://gov.genealogy.net/index.jsp

Note you can search the start of the name and also
phonetic. They display short hit lists pages with a
"weiter" in the lower right corner to get to the next
page.

As for the mysterious placename while the F start may
be correct please remember that in German the letter V
is also pronounced with the F sound (with a few
exceptions when the word is borrowed from another
language). Possibly the placename starts with a V ???

Finally, the borders shifted all over the place, as
you probably know, in the aftermath of WWI and WWII.
Your placename could be outside of modern-day Germany
proper and worse yet, may have an entirely new name.

Gutes Neues Jahr!
Kathy Flynn
