One of the most unusual and helpful things I found in a City Directory was
in the introduction to the Directory of Iowa City, Iowa 1891-91. The
introduction listed the names of the people who had helped collect the
information for the directory. One of their employees was Frank Fleming
Luse, my grandfather's first cousin. The introduction also stated that he
had worked for the 1890 census as well. It is unlikely that I would have
found that information in any other way.

Another thing I love about early directories is the list of Secret and
Fraternal Societies. The Luse family in Iowa seems to have joined almost
all of them.
