I tried to get access to my deceased Father's school records (public HS in
the midwest).
I was told--confidentially by someone in the school office--the only to get
them would be to request them *as* my father.
I opted not to do so.

The act covers records of any school that has accepted any type of federal
grant or assistance, so applies to most public and private school student
records. Parents can access the records while the student is a minor, but
after that
only the student can see them. To my knowledge, there is no provision for
access after the death of the individual they pertain to..
