Sherry,
Perhaps Elizabeth Mills, the official BCG Ombudsperson, will jump in here
but I will give you my opinion.
Although I am not a judge or have insight into what judges do, I cannot
imagine that they would reject an application based on not supplying the
"right" geographic area. If you have documents that you have transcribed,
abstracted and worked with, then they are in an area that you have worked
in. I have been told repeatedly when I have asked that the geographic
designation is just to guide the office in picking out the two documents
that they supply. As I recall, sitting here in Pennsylvania, I received a
North Carolina deed and a Virginia will -- neither one in PA or Ohio where I
do a fair amount of work also.
I want to applaud your efforts for continuing your work on your portfolio.
It sounds like you may be reading too much into instructions but that shows
you are a very detailed person who doesn't want to miss anything -- traits
worthy of a good researcher!
Best wishes,
Elissa

To those in the know on the certification process...
I have a question regarding the geographic area and time period
submitted on the pre-application and the application of that information
in selecting work for my CGRS portfolio projects (specifically CGRS 1).
Here is my situation: I recently submitted my pre-app designating one
state and one time period, both of which represent my current personal
research endeavors and where I am currently focused in "growing" my
expertise. I know this designation is used to guide the BCG in
determining the photocopies to send for the Document Work tasks (GR 10),
but what I want to confirm or clarify is my understanding of the
importance of this designation in selecting work for other project
requirements, specifically the CGRS 1 task (applicant-supplied document
work). .
