I believe it was one of Helen Leary's wonderful lectures in which she
spoke about naming patterns. It may have been in general or among
the Scotch-Irish, about whom she always had wonderful stories. At
any rate, I recall a reference to the first son in the family being
named for the father's father, the second son for the mother's
father, and the third son for his own father. Can someone correct me
if I am wrong -- strong possibility -- and perhaps give me a
citation? Many thanks.
If I may piggy-back here, I'dm curious as to how many of you have heard this
"naming pattern" attributed to another ethnic group you're working on.
