Although I've encountered the same type of problem before, this one was a little more perplexing and time-consuming to overcome so I am posting it here as a warning but also to find out if there was another way I could have located my ancestor in a more efficient manner.
I searched the index at Ancestry.com for Oliver A. Lattin in 1910 in Indiana or Ohio. The entry in the index gave:
"Oliver A. Latten - Madison Twp., Jay, IN - b. abt 1850 Indiana - White - Male" I chose to view the image.
The information bar at the top showed I would be viewing 1910 US Federal Census>Indiana>Jay>Madison Twp>District 67.
The schedule, which was page 84a which was image 2, was Indiana, Jay Co., Madison Twp. but Oliver was not to be found. Since this was p. 84a I also searched 84b. He was not found. Neither was he on the first image, which was Sheet No. 8b.
Then I noticed that Image 1 was District 67 and Image 2 was District 68!
I went back to the index and chose to "View Record" for Oliver. The Image Source gives this: Year: 1910; Census Place: Madison Twp, Jay, Indiana; Series: T624; Roll: 358; Page: 81b not 84; Enumeration District: 67 not 68; Part 2; Line: 20.
Then, I clicked on Madison Twp so I could see what precincts and districts were listed:
District 66 - Knox Township
District 67 - Madison Township (part) including Salamonia
Town, Salamonia precinct;
District 68 - Madison Township (part of) excluding Salamonia town. Salem Precinct
Since the "View Record" said ED 67 that is where I went. That took me back to the Image 1 mentioned above with a sheet no. 8b, and Image 2 is 84a, District 68.
l then selected District 68 which consisted of one sheet, Noble Township, sheet 2b.
Knox Township was the only place left to search. Image 1 is Jay Co., Madison Twp., Salamonia Precinct, ED 67 Sheet 3b. Image 2 is paage 79a. I'M GETTING CLOSER! I skipped to page 81b. Now keep in mind that the a and b pages' line numbers are numbered consecutively. If he is supposed to be on line 20 he will not be found on page 81b!
However, that is exactly where I find him, but Line 59 not line 20.
Also, there is nothing pertaining to Knox Precinct at this link.
I was conducting another search last week and never did find the individual!
I hope everyone in the paths of the storms stay safe and dry. When I watch the weather reports I start thinking that maybe dealing with 40 below for a few days or week a year isn't all that bad because we get very little wind and rarely a destructive storm. We just FREEZE!
