In regard to this discussion, I feel it is more pertinent as to what the
outside world will accept as viable credentials for working in the field of
genealogy and related fields. I don't think in the end that it will be genealogists
who set the standards, but those who utilize the services of the genealogy
professionals. Some of this may be forced upon us by government dictated measures
of compliance. The more out in the open the field becomes the more aware
people will be of the apparent needs for regulations. I have watched enough of the
legislative process, to know that politicians will put into practice very
stringent qualifications. What is in place today is more voluntary measure of
compliance by very dedicated professionals. It will not take much of
noncompliance though to create the apparent needs for regulations.
