Find someone in the audience that is a dear friend and just talk to them
without staring at them. You don't have to talk to them all the time, but
you will keep coming back to them. Hopefully they are smiling at you as you
talk and nodding their head in agreement. Nothing works better at putting me
at ease than nodding heads with smiles. The nodding heads without smiles are
sleeping and you can ignore them. Don't ever take people sleeping or leaving
the room personally. Really it is amazing how people can sleep through
laughter around them and how many fail to visit the facilities before a
lecture.
The way that I learned to get through jitters was to start early, about 15
minutes, and give a chance for questions on the front end while I was
setting up. This would put me at ease with the crowd and them at ease with
me. By the time the lecture started we were already old friends. Of course
then someone would come down the aisle and insist on introducing me, but
that is another story.

Hi Everyone,
How do you handle your speaking jitters? Appreciate some pointers beyond
just "knowing your presentation."
Thanks in advance,
LaDonna
