Joan - It does not surprise me that the present Board of NYG&BS feels that
ending members is the way to go. The Board at NEHGS also felt this way and
had the votes of the soon-to-be non-voting members to bring it about.
Members surrendering their votes I can't understand.

It isn't even covert, as the case with a state vital records registrar in
the 1980s. She told a public official she thought was sympathetic that she
would lie and lie and lie to genealogists about the intention of proposed
legislation on vital records access, right up until it the legislation
passed - and then she would slam the door in their faces.

I've had the exact same conversation with legislators in the past year - and
had to simply tell them that "I can read and what you say is a lie."
