That's an interesting point. Yesterday I was reading my copy of the "New York Researcher" from NYG&B. There is a strange letter from the President about the sale of the Manhattan Real Estate. He really chastises several members (not named) for "holding up the works" regarding this sale. A few members apparently objected to the sale and it was taken to court which lasted several months. "The cost to the G&B...from these objections was approx. $3,000/day in lost interst income...the objectors succeeded in robbing the Society of the ability to act decisively and in its best interest. The governance reforms your trustees propose will keep this sort of pointless delay of a unanimous decision of the trustees from happening again."
This is definitely a power/money issue! Democracy is apparently out the window!
