What I've found in the North is just the opposite--a desire to possess som
ething "exotic" in one's heritage and the spread of "Indian" lore of tribal
descent that turned to be fromm the (to borrow Richard's term) Wannabees and
the Wishiwases. It isn't that the lore of Indian descent couldn't be
PROVEN--it was that it could be DISproven in every case I've found thus far, at least
so far as the ancestor that was reported to me to BE the Indian is concerned.
