I have been reconnected to a college classmate (1955) when he learned of my
interest in genealogy and sought my assitance. I whizzed through the census
records and vital records and found for him his immigrant ancestor (male
line), his great grandfather. A bio of the great grandfather says he was
born in "the Kingdom of Hanover" in Prussia and came to the U.S. and St.
Louis in 1840, then moved to Jo Daviess County, illinois, were he lived
until his death. The man's name was Henry Kuhl, aka John Henry Kuhl
(presumably Johan Heinrich Kuhl). He was born 26 Mar 1816. Married Mary Ann
Welp, also said to be born in Prussia, 18 Apr 1842 in Jo Daviess County.
Henry may have had a brother named Bernard, born 1815 in Prussia, living
next to Henry in 1850.

I have checked the Ancestry.com passenger lists but found no matches.

I have had little experience with passenger lists, so ... Where else should
I be looking?
