Subject: [APG] Localities before they were states
Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2007 15:25:10 -0900
I received information on an old New England family and I have a lot of
verifying, editing and documenting to do.
The first thing that jumped out at me is events occuring before statehood
and before the county was formed.
For example:
1649 Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut
Connecticut was a colony. Middlesex wasn't formed until 1785 and it was
formed from Hartford, New Haven and New London which were formed in 1666.
I'm not sure about Saybrook but according to the FHLC vital records were
recorded as early as 1647 so I assume it was a village in 1649!
What is the correct way to enter the locality? Saybrook, Colony of
Connecticut???? I'm confused.
