In my experience, "forensic" describes other professions, occupations and
processes when they are they are applied to legal issues and particularly to
possible litigation. Thus, forensic medicine, forensic accounting, forensic
genealogy, forensic courier services, forensic software.

To the extent that forensic genealogy may involve collecting data about
living persons, a private investigator's license may be required in some
jurisdictions.
