Let's pretend that APG management took a very bold step and created a new membership category called Supporting Member.

APG clearly defines this category as a voluntary choice for folks who do not consider themselves professional genealogists.

This voluntary category is for folks who'd like a unique learning experience, want to support APG's objectives, want to think about becoming a professional genealogist - heck they don't even have to tell anyone why they chose this category.

What if bold step number two was to create a Related Services category. APG clearly defines this category as a voluntary choice for folks who maybe don't provide other kinds of genealogical services, heck, they don't even have to be able to correctly spell genealogy. But if they provide web design or travel services, publish books or design brochures and would like to voluntarily choose this category, here it is.

Now here's the challenge -
Please explain how one person or one thousand people voluntarily and independently making informed choices to join APG in these two self-screening categories has:
1 diminished a single other APG member
2 possibly hurt the feelings of a single other member
3 made other members appear elitist
4 given some member an unfair edge
5 made APG or its members seem unwelcoming
6 caused APG to lose any money.

And if we're being real honest, are there any on this list who'd go "Whew!" on the next renewal and chose one of these two voluntary categories?

Best regards,
Dee
