Rondina, I don't have time to look it up now, but if you do some research on

20 mule team borax

you'll find some info on Calico wagons.


I remember the term from when we visited several times in the Boron (California) area when I was in high school. Rick and I visited the Borax Museum in 2001 when we were off RVing for a couple of years.

If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the Calico Hills and the town of Calico. The wagons definitely had bigger wheels in the back. The boron was mined in Calico, which is a ghost town now.

But that would not explain how your family got to Texas from the *east* in Calico wagons.
