"I got a funny look from the waitress in Kenosha, Wisconsin when I asked for

unsweetened tea. But in Jamaica they also have unsweetened or pre-sweetened
tea. I wondered if it was a Jamaica thing, maybe a climate thing in hotter
areas, or because they have so many tourists from the southern U.S."

In Florida, when one orders iced tea, the waitress asks "sweet or unsweet".
They stir in the sugar while steeping as well.

This must be fairly common in Florida, if this non-tea drinker is aware of
the practice.
