Richard,

My husband's family called their grandmothers "Big Mama," too, with the
emphasis on the first syllable in a snappy sort of way ("BIG Mama," not
"BIGGG Mama!"). Does that seem to be a southeastern tradition? I've
noticed that just a few others had noted that tradition in their family, but
I can't remember now if they were scattered around the South or isolated in
our part of the country. Anyone keeping track besides Carolyn?
