Subject: [APG] Rootsweb Redirects to Ancestry

Personally, I wouldn't count on the
redirects remaining in place all that long. Oh,
sure, they'll have them up for a while, just to
keep from annoying too many people too much. But,
what a company can promise, a company can go back
on. And, once they discover the SEO results of
such a massive redirect - that Google will
penalise them heavily for it if it continues over
time, then they will take them down.
Better to work on those social bookmarks now
than have a huge task ahead with little or no
warning. The HTML code, as I said before, is
easy. In fact, if they leave the rest of the URL
structure alone, (although that would still
result in a partial separation - the way I read
the announcement is that they're hoping to shove
Ancestry under the noses of Rootsweb users far
more directly) then you'd just have to do one
search and replace. If they tamper with the
structure, then each main part of the site (at
least) would be a separate S&R. Still better than
hunting bookmarks to change by hand.
