The last time I wrote a letter directly to the National Archives & Records
Administration in Wash. DC, I was mailed all the paperwork involved in the
claim and there was no cost. It has been about 5 yrs since I did this so
there might be a charge today.
You can begin by writing a letter citing the source of your information and
requesting a copy of all pertinent papers.

Subject: [APG] Private claim brought before the Senate
Greetings to everyone from muggy Alabama.
How does one obtain a copy of a private claim before the Senate and what
is the cost involved? What information are the documents likely to
contain? The particulars on the claim I am interested in are listed below.
Claimant: Paton Lane Coker
Nature or Object of Claim: Payment of judgment
How brought before the Senate: Senate Doc 148 or 143, amt. to House bill
Committee to which referred: Appropriations
Nature of report: favorable
No. of bill: 12203 or 12208
How disposed of in the Senate: passed
Date of act and remarks: Mar 3, 1899
(Having trouble distinguishing 3 from 8 on image from Genealogy.Bank).
Type of claim: Indian Depradation Claim
Payment: $200 on Jan 23, 1899.
Is the actual claim in the House records or the Senate? I assume the
House made the decision to pay the claim and the Senate appropriated the
money for payment.
Thanks in advance for your gracious assistance.
