Subject: [APG] LDS 1880 census CDs

I was thinking of donating my LDS CD set for the 1880 census (which runs
fine on mp Windows XP), but just a couple of days ago I couldn't find a
family on Ancestry.com but found it easily using the CDs.
I was reminded by one of the recent messages on this topic that I read
somewhere that the Family History Library studied surname and their changes
and variations extensively and created an indexing system based on that
study.
Thus I can search for Pence on LDS disks and web site and returned will be
all Pence, Pense and Pentz listings You need to use wild cards to do that
at Ancestry.com.
And with the CDs if you search for Charles you will also get Charlie,
Charley, etc. And a search for Elizabeth will also get you Lizzie, Betsey
and many more.
So I decided to keep my CDs fro a while!
