I'm sure some or all of you have set up some simple
(hopefully) file systems for your genealogy and other
computer work.
I just got a new laptop with a lot of memory and I want to
be able to locate things more quickly.
There will be professional genealogy files with a number of
clients over the years, some that have used my services only
once and others who have asked for my help several times.
There will also be personal genealogy files with lots of
branches.
There's e-mail files that are from clients and e-mail that's
personal and misc e-mail that's from people also researching
the same lines as I am.
There will also be other personal files such as financial
and personal files having nothing to do with genealogy.
There's also reference files such as sources from different
counties, states and countries.
Some say I should put the pictures of a specific family
under that family and others say put the pictures all
together in one place. There are photos of individuals and
others are group pictures.
It also has been recommended that I put all the photos that
will be imported into my genealogy program, in my case,
Legacy into one separated file.
There's a lot of memory on my new computer, but still, it
has it's limits.
I know searches can be made, but it is time consuming
because of having such a big system to search.
SO, any suggestions out there. I think I do a pretty good
job, but believe it could and should be streamlined.
Thanks for any suggestions - ways to simplify.
Joyce
