Subject: [APG] BCG Mentor

A few months ago, I inquired about a mentor (CG) from the APG List. I got
several suggestions, but that did not answer my inquiry. I had also made
inquiries to a couple of area APG Chapters and did not receive any replies.

I am near completion of my formal portfolio for submission to the BCG for
CG. Hope to submit the final formal portfolio by the end of October, 2008. I

have just completed a sample (for practice) of the Kinship Determination

Project. I am not completely comfortable with it based upon ALL of the
requirements expecially the report format (typographic style) requirement.
I see this more of a technical requirement and standards for genealogical
writing than I do a content/substantial information requirement. I have
included a significant amount of information on the times of the primary
ancestor to attempt to shed addtional light on what life (historical
context) was like for him and his young family ---- mid 1800s in Indiana and

Illinois. This was done at the beginning and at the end of the Kinship
Determination Project. It does include the 3 generations requirement and is

my Harmon family.

However, this is not the one that I will be submitting as part of my formal
portfolio.

The guidance that I have read on mentors is:

BCG Frequently Asked Questions
BCG web site www.bcgcertification.org/certification/faq.html

"A BCG mentor typically answers questions about certification AND REVIEWS
AREAS OF WORK ABOUT WHICH A PROSPECTIVE APPLICANT FEELS UNCERTAIN. However,
a mentor can not critique or "edit" your portfolio materials or provide
detailed guidance on any work product you will be submitting. A mentor could

review a similar work product and critique your strength and weaknesses but
would not assist you with that research"

It is with this guidance that I am seeking a mentor to "volunteer" to take a

look at this "practice" Kinship Determination Project that I have done and

simply offer suggestions and/or constructive criticisms to improve upon it
or to simply comment on it (strengths and weaknesses) if you think it meets
the requirement in the BCG Application Manual and BCG Standards Manual for
the Kinship Determination Report.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Please contact me off list if you are

willing to take a look at the Kinship Determination Report.

Thanks
