I guess that's where the "index" part of the name comes into play. You, as a
professional, always check the microfilm to make sure it was extracted
properly. The user-submitted material is not so easily checked, but has to
be otherwise verified.

As I noted privately to another responder, the IGI led me to the German
origins of my immigrant Pence (Bentz) ancestor - and a relative schooled in
reading the German script verified that the entries on our family were
correctly transcribed.
