I'm weighing in on the side of derivative source, because the copy of
the record was made much later than the original. My husband received
the marriage record of his grandfather, typed by the current day
clerk, with the name of his great-grandfather on it. The clerk had
mistranscribed the name to be Kenneth, when it really was Kennett.
When a copy is made from the original, especially by someone many
years later errors are introduced by the clerk's unfamiliarily with
the times and the people.
