Well, Ancestry announces new pilot partnership with professional genealogists.
Ancestry sends out lovely invitation: "You're one of the nation's top genealogists."
Go to expert.ancestry.com

It's just another version of TreeLance, with all the underlying problems. Ancestry is a multimillion dollar enterprise and now they want a cut from professionals.

This list had a couple of fairly long, nicely articulated threads about the inherent problems with professionals bidding on projects, collecting money through a third-party, clients rating professionals a la eBay feedback, and all with no professional mediation or arbitration system. These kinds of services will drive up prices as the Ancestry cut either has to be absorbed by the professional or passed on to the client.

Adding archives, repositories, specialties is unwieldy and does not seem to allow personalized entries.

Sigh. I thought from all the hype Ancestry had a great new idea...

best regards,

Dee
