Apparently Mr. Boswell is a beginner at national genealogical organizations,
or maybe Jack Butler is correct and he is merely a pot-stirrer. One with
lots of time on his hands to write posts. Like Jack, I hope to be proved
wrong.
The Federation of Genealogical Societies has been recognizing volunteers for
a number of years. At the annual conference a special volunteer is honored
at the banquet and volunteers past and present are added to a Volunteer Hall
of Honor. FGS is now accepting nominations for the annual FGS Awards,
including the Ruth C. Bishop Family History Volunteer Hall of Honor. I
suggest you go to their website and nominate your favorite volunteer. The
National Genealogical Society has an annual lunch to honor volunteers in
northern Virginia.
And you are welcome, Larry, to attend the FGS conference in Little Rock in
September and meet the folks you have been writing to. After more than
twenty years of attending, and sometimes speaking at, conferences of FGS,
NGS, and IAJGS, I'm sure meeting another member of the APG Discussion Group
would be very nice indeed.
And can everyone learn to delete the message you are writing about...a
sentence is more than enough. Re-reading everyone's post over and over and
over again has made me consider dropping out of the discussion group.
