Googling "awards for genealogy" brought up more than 700 hits.

That sounds like exactly what I was thinking of. I had considered that
there had to be something along those lines at a national/international
level but I could not locate anything online. I'm very pleased to see your
reply. I've two particular individuals in mind in my local area who have
dedicated long years to volunteer work, creating a database that will
continue to serve researchers from far and near, long into the future.
Their list of local publications is grounds enough for any award alone.
