I don't see it as a pity-party as much as I see it as fear, people being afraid of being excluded or perhaps not being included once changes start being made.

If we are to make any changes to the profession/field -- i.e. becoming credentialed, becoming more of an academic study, other requirements, etc. -- there will be people who will not fit into the new criteria or requirements. Setting any type of new standard or definitions in an attempt to move the profession forward, means that there will be a percentage of those currently working in the field who will not meet those new standards and/or definitions.

It is nearly impossible to get everyone (or even most) onboard with "modernizing" or "leading in the future" because, in my opinion, there is too much fear about being excluded or being left behind once the changes begin.

I know I'm ready to see the profession move on from the pity-party and start applying our professional methodology and standards to our own dilemma. Gather info on everything we have now, analyze it, figure out what we want, research the resources, and develop plans to reach our goals and objectives. And that may mean we heed our own advice and *hire professionals* to help us.

I'm tired of seeing us treat ourselves like some second class profession. Let's stop doing that to ourselves and commit to modernizing. Let's get out of the "that's the way we've always done it" rut and commit to modernizing for today and leading in the future.

though we don't have any confidence in the legitimacy of this field
