I ran across about 50 cases of Odd Fellow books, ledgers, papers, etc at a used book store going out of business. I purchased what I could, but just couldn't swing the entire lot. I inquired at the IA IOOF head quarters and the secretary there was less than helpful. She said that the lodges are encouraged to donate the papers to a local historical society (which obviously didn't happen in this instance), and she doesn't have room for anymore there. She even tosses stuff out occasionally to make room for the state headquarters records. So needless to say some records are lost forever when the the state organization only full-time employee looks at the records as so much busted plumbing. Someday I'll transcribe what I was able to rescue to my website ( www.chaseyourtale.com ) not that I am lacking for projects.
